Both. The grading section sorts by bulb diameter regardless of whether the garlic is fresh off the field or already dried.

The feed and grading motion is built specifically to avoid that. Cracked or split bulbs are what this design is meant to prevent.
How long does it take to train someone to run it?
Most new operators are comfortable running it within a day. The controls are kept deliberately simple.
How much space does the line need?
It's a long line, about 30 by 12 feet and 7 feet high, weighing 4 to 5 tons. It suits a dedicated shed rather than a corner of a packing room, and the floor needs to take the weight.
What happens to undersized or damaged bulbs?
They go to a separate reject output, so you get three size grades plus a reject stream. That keeps the graded lots clean without anyone hand-picking afterwards.
